Bad Ash Outdoors On a Mission About Fishin’

Ashley “Bad Ash” Nichole Lewis is on a mission…a mission about about fishin’.

Lewis, a 142nd generation angler, a member of the Quinault Indian Nation, a Ph.D. student in History, and environmentalist and guide, is partnering with Heliconia Press to build her YouTube channel Bad Ash Outdoors to lead her media/television project Hook, Line, and History. The purpose of the show, she says, is to showcase ancestral wisdom, environmental stewardship, and accessible outdoor adventures to inspire and mentor diverse audiences.

“I’m on a mission to make a positive impact on our corner of the world by reshaping our approach to recreation,” says. “I aim to ignite a sense of curiosity about fishing, the great outdoors, and how we can all lead more meaningful lives through these pursuits.”

Her role here is to upend the typical narratives about who an angler is, stereotypes are not safe here! With over a decade of experience, including guiding for salmon and steelhead, and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in history, I’m driven by the belief that the places we love are facing challenges, and storytelling is a powerful tool in understanding our place in the world. Through fishing, we can uncover often overlooked stories of our land and kindle passion within those who cherish their homes. My goal, as an authority in history and fishing, is to channel that passion for the betterment of our environments and our lives. I am a historian, angler, environmentalist, and most importantly, a narrative disruptor.
