Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is used to hitting holes in offensive lines. But he dodged them on Colorado’s Yampa River while visiting Steamboat Springs this summer, while taking a kayak lesson from Barry Smith of Mountain Sports Kayak School.
Paddling a Dagger Mamba kayak on relatively low flows in July—a boat whose outfitting supported his crushed-by-linebackers spine—Favre, in company with friends and family, took to the Class I-II waterway to escape the summer heat and enjoy some time outdoors.
While he didn’t hit any rolls (or need to), he did receive a good rating, never swimming or getting sacked in the backfield
. “He actually did pretty good,” says Smith, admitting he didn’t even know it was him until someone told him afterward. “He did about as good as everyone else, and even came out of an eddy or two. I think he liked it.”
