From Our Boat Experts at CKS: History of the Longboat and Green Race

According to our friends and partners over at Colorado Kayak Supply, longboats are having their moment. Especially given that it’s fall and some of the best and least crowded boating and best whitewater events take place this time of year.

The famed paddlesports retailer explains that the development of 12-foot boats has been driven by The Green Race , won this year by none other than Dane Jackson in a record time of 4:02.

As a category, longboats were essentially invented for the sole purpose of winning this race. These boats have dominated the racing scene since Pat Keller’s 2006 Green Race win in his Dagger Green Boat.

CKS Online kicked off longboat season with a self-support kayak trip through the Grand Canyon — and last week recapped the Russell Fork and Lord of the Fork Race.

To find out what longboats the exclusive retailer has in stock and on sale now, check out the full story and reviews here!
