Paddleboard manufacturer Hala Gear has changed ownership, but will remain based in Steamboat Springs, CO, after being purchased by employee Colleen King.
“I love the Hala brand,” says King, who purchased the Hala assets, digital assets, trademarks and patents from founder Peter Hall and plans to carry on the business selling direct online. “Everything is still pretty much the same. We’ve still got our great customer service, five-year warranty, and certified repair store.”
Hala has 15 inflatable stand-up paddleboards in its lineup, as well as accessories, spare parts, apparel, and repair service.
Hall founded Hala in Steamboat Springs in 2000 and will stay involved working on new designs. As a designer he was instrumental in such innovations as the retractable “StompBox” fin, the use of carbon-fiber stringers for added rigidity, rocker profiles, and more. Hall also owned Colorado Kayak Supply, an online retailer, which he recently sold to Jon Kahn of Denver, Colo.’s Confluence Kayak and Ski.
“I want to thank everyone for supporting us over the years,” Hall says. “It’s in great hands moving forward.”
“I’m really honored and excited to carry on the Hala Gear name and to do my best with it,” adds King said. “I’ve loved not just the brand that Peter has created, but the whole culture. It’s been a great brand to work for.”
