Jackson Releases New Clutch, a Halfslice Creeker (Plus, Dane Weighs In)

It’s Clutch time. If you follow Dane Jackson on social channels, you’ve likely noticed a little more activity of late. He’s been tearing it up running the gnar—and playfully playing along the way—in Jackson Kayak’s new Clutch, billed by the company as “the ultimate creek-slice kayak: both fully creekable and with a playable stern.”

Creek-slice. We like it. How do they do it? The Clutch is built on a Gnarvana Medium hull for a high-floating, high-rockered ride for confidence and control. It also reduced the stern rocker by an inch and a half compared to the Gnarvana for more speed, better skip-outs, improved surfing, and to make it easier to engage the stern on demand.

The Clutch also has a forgiving half-slice stern and nimble feel. It’s a creek boat is stern-squirtable while being almost as forgiving as a full-size creek boat stern. As company tester extraordinaire Dane Jackson says, “Try it. You’ll see.”

“Although it’s a half slice, it opens up more than just the ability to slice the stern under,” says Dane. “It gives an added level of enjoyment and control you haven’t experienced, no matter what type of whitewater you are on. I have gotten it on my home runs, the Stikine, low water BC classics, the North Fork, the Ottawa River and more. I was able to enjoy each of the runs in a new way I haven’t before, whether just making my way downstream or getting vertical. The way the stern slices through the water but is still forgiving gives you so much control, but also ability to work with more features down the run. It is the boat I have been wanting for years and it’s everything I have wanted and more, and I can’t wait to bring it all over the world.”

“The Clutch will open up a realm of possibilities no matter where you put it in the water. With the confidence, more speed, and enjoyment of a full on creekboat, but with the half slice potential. It doesn’t matter if you want to simply make your way downstream, or get as playful as you want, you will enjoy the river in a way you never have before.”  – Dane Jackson

Jackson Clutch
The new Jackson Clutch, letting you play and surf on your favorite creek…

The Clutch, maintains Jackson, opens up a new way to go downriver. It’s designed to let you slice the stern through the water with a buttery feel, whether you want the ability to get vertical or just experience a new level of control. Jackson says users will learn to engage the stern to boof, play with rocks, correct angles, launch off waves, and get the bow up anytime, anywhere. It doesn’t matter what skill level or type of whitewater you are on; the Clutch will change how you paddle and see the river.

“The way the stern slices through the water but is still forgiving gives you so much control, but also ability to work with more features down the run. It is the boat I have been wanting for years and it’s everything I have wanted and more…”
