Badfish Launches Raft Line

There’s a new player in the raft market, with gobs of experience on the water. Longtime SUP-maker Badfish, of good ol’ Salida, Colo., recently unveiled its new raft line with its aptly named Ark 10’6″ and 13′ models and the new Hammer Cat.

“Thirty years ago this summer Zack Hughes and I met on the Arkansas as rookie raft guides and here we are today launching a new line of rafts,” says co-owner Mike Harvey, who also spearheads whitewater park projects for Recreation Engineering & Planning. “We’re very excited about this new part of our journey, with big credit due to our partner Luke Hopkins who worked hard for the past two years to make this project a reality.”

The Arkansas River in Colorado has a legendary history of whitewater rafting and now Badfish plans to continue and build upon that legacy. Its rafts are made with DuraClear commercial-grade PVC fabric, making them easy to keep clean and showing less wear and tear over the life of the watercraft. All rafts are radio frequency and hot air welded, with their primary air chambers triple seamed for extra air tightness.

“Our 10′ 6″ raft is fun for the whole family or can easily be set up as a nimble fishing rig with a small frame,” says Harvey. “The 18-inch tubes keep you close to the water and our thwarts are removable and adjustable. And it can pack down small enough to fit in the back of your car and easily stores between trips. The 13-footer has space for six passengers, and handles Class V whitewater, overnight trips and everything in between.”

Hammer time: The new Badfish Hammer Cat, built for the Ark from Pine Creek down to the Royal Gorge.

The Hammer Cat, he adds, handles the hardest rivers and is versatile and nimble. “Its 24-inch tubes provide a stable and dry ride, and the reduced drag of the pontoon design paddles effortlessly,” he adds. “It offers big boat performance with the ease of small boat travel and storage. And D-rings are strategically placed to facilitate the Badfish splash guard or a rowing frame.”

Harvey adds that Badfish is the first company to manufacture inflatable boats with the commercial-grade DuraClear material.
