With plenty of idle time on his hands to dream up ideas during the pandemic, Jackson Kayaks’ Dane Jackson came up with a doozie: Why not try to surf between two yachts outside Miami.
World Champion kayaker Dane Jackson is best That search for new firsts brought the 27-year-old to the waters of Biscayne Bay to ride the wake of two yachts in today’s newly released content from Red Bull. Jackson nailed the feat with the help of wakeboarding legends, Parks Bonifay, Brian Grubb and Bob Soven, riding the wake of two 90-foot yachts, simulating the perfect wave for kayaking. The yachts travel North and South in Biscayne Bay at a 45-foot distance, with speeds at an 11.5 knot average in 10-foot waters.
“It was just one of those visuals you would never expect to get to see, two 90-ft boats hurling towards you. But then being able to be throwing tricks, on a decently sized wave, with those giants on both sides. It was somehow hilarious and awesome at the same time,” says Jackson. “I never expected to have the opportunity to throw freestyle in Miami, so this was obviously a new experience. It’s one of those cool “what if” things that I’m stoked we got to pull off.”
