With experience in everything from herbs and snowboards to—yes, even a position back in the early days at Perception Kayaks– there’s a new marketing king at the helm of paddlesports conglomerate Confluence, whose appointment promises to propel the company to new heights.

Todd King, who began his career in the outdoor industry at Perception Kayaks where he was product manager of touring and recreational kayaks, comes to Confluence from Gaia Herbs where he served as vice president of marketing. During his tenure, he was a catalyst for growth as Gaia nearly doubled sales and was named to Inc.’s 5000 Fastest Growing Companies List.

“Todd has the passion, drive and marketing skill sets to take our brands and consumer engagement to the next level,” says Rich Krause, president and CEO of Confluence Outdoor. “He has significant experience in state-of-the art brand and consumer marketing practices and he knows the space, product and the outdoor consumer well. He has a demonstrated track record of driving brands to new levels and building meaningful consumer brand engagement.”

Prior to Gaia, King served as senior manager of brand marketing, creative and product development for Select Design, a leading brand marketing and merchandising agency. King led significant brand marketing, product and merchandising initiatives for major brands including Teva, Sanuk, Nalgene, Dakine, Keurig, Gallo, Nalgene, Warrior and Google.

King also worked with Burton Corporation for ten years where he rose from product manager for snowboards to business unit director for snowboards. He managed the entire snowboard business and stewarding growth in North America, Europe and Japan.

“I’m excited to come on board as the new VP of marketing at Confluence and join a great team,” says King. “Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with premium brands that inspire great consumer loyalty and deliver top quality products. This continues with Confluence. We have the opportunity to expand the reach of paddle sports, elevate brand experiences and bring innovative new programs to our retail partners. I look forward to parlaying my knowledge of paddle sports and career experience to drive Confluence marketing, outreach and engagement to new levels.”
