Shaken, Not Stirred: Kayaker Benny Marr Mixes Up Cocktails in Kayak for Sponsor Stoli

- Advertisment -

At least one of these might taste better out of your river bootie than a warm PBR. Stoli Vodka recently tapped extreme kayaker Benny Marr, as well as other elite extreme athletes, as part of a campaign to have them mix drinks in action to help show that men do, in fact, like their foo-foo drinks…

The campaign was meant to respond to a survey showing that three out of four guys enjoy flavored cocktails, but avoid them for fear of scrutiny by peers.

“Cocktails just taste better if they’re shaken while kayaking down rapids, right?” says promoter Myles Worthington.

To show the majority on men what they’re missing out on and to encourage men to “#DrinkWhatYouWant,” Stoli partnered with top names in extreme sports to debut an “Extreme Cocktailing” video series. Produced and directed by action sports legends, Lukas and Jesse Huffman, the four-episode series premieres on YouTube and D www.drinkWhatYouWant.com

For the campaign, they tapped professional slackliner and world record holder Spencer Seabrooke; Champion bull rider Zach Miles; professional mountain biker Kyle Norbraten; and last but not least, good ol’ kayaker Benny Marr, who shook up a Stoli Whitewater Blueberi Lemon Drop while kayaking in Canada.

We caught up with Marr between waterfalls for his take on the shoot and mixing elixirs:

PL: What do you normally drink after a run?
Marr:
Whatever’s trending at the takeout

PL: Have you ever bartended?
Marr:
I’ve never bartended but always wanted to- I’m typically on the other side

PL: Where did you shake up your Stoli Whitewater Blueberi Lemon Drop?
Marr:
I made the drink while kayaking the Cheakamus River, out of Whistler B.C. The waterfall is called Balls to the Wall, and I kept my hair dry on the run.

PL: How’d it taste afterward?
Marr:
It was delicious…better than a beer.

PL: When’s the last time you had to drink out of a wetsuit bootie?
Marr:
Kayakers will sometimes drink beer from their river shoe after having to swim from their boat. Some do so to appease the river gods some to give friends payback for saving their ass. A six pack also works. My last swim was in Mexico after running a 40-foot falls at flood stage and I got stuffed against the canyon wall. I drank one there.
