Rafting Trip of a Lifetime with Mountain Travel Sobek

Inflatable aficionados will want to check their bank accounts, sell the motorcycle, sell the house, sell the kids, because they can now jump on an around-the-world raft trip with legendary river running pioneer John Yost, co-founder of adventure outfitter Mountain Travel Sobek.

In celebration of the legendary guide and outfitter’s 40th anniversary, MTS is launching a one-time only, around-the-world rafting adventure spanning nine rivers in six countries…for a starting price of $8,695.

Hardly more cash than a week of heli-skiing in British Columbia, this is a rafter’s dream trip come true and gives you nine international descents to check off your list while paling around with a legend.

“In a world that has been pretty thoroughly poked through, modern adventures seem to be clever combinations of things no one else has gotten around to rather than first descents or ascents,” says Yost. “In thinking about a proper way to acknowledge the 40th anniversary of Sobek’s first trip, the beginning of the era of major whitewater first descents, I came up with the Six Continent idea, which fits neatly into the category of modern ‘firsts,’ as I am certain that no other commercial group has attempted this.”

But the Six Continent Whitewater Adventure leaves next month, so you have to sell those kids quickly. The trip departs from Fresno, Calif., on May 9 and runs through June 2, 2013.

With only a handful of spots left on the trip, interested parties should contact MTS ASAP by calling (888) 831-7526 or emailing regionalspecialists@mtsobek.com. Visit mtsobek.com for full details.

“I’m excited about it because of the scope and diversity and the contrasts we will be deluged with, and because of the excellent rivers we will be doing,” Yost explained.

He also added an important note of interest to those considering the trip: “I’ve almost certainly rafted more rivers around the world than anyone else, yet I managed to pick excellent rivers that I have never done–this will be all new for me just as it is for other participants.” Beginning in California, Yost will guide the trip through Ecuador, Spain, Kenya, India and finish in Australia over the course of 25 days.

This trip is for cutting edge adventurers who enjoy whitewater and international travel; those wanting to do something unique, a first, or perhaps a last, Yost said.

If that describes you, then get that motorcycle on Craigslist today and give them a call.

“They should be psyched about the trip for the same reasons I am…” Yost said, “Lots of terrific rafting and cultural and wildlife experiences packed into a short time.”

To give family members a chance to see you off, MTS is hosting a special three-river expedition on California’s best whitewater rivers prior to the trip, followed by a celebratory bon voyage dinner hosted by Sobek guides and friends, offering an incredible chance to paddle and learn from the legends.
