Chalk one up for Chaco Sandals for protecting rivers. Already committed to a strong preservation presence, the footwear company recently partnered with a variety of conservation organizations, outfitters, and brands to celebrate rivers in April….
The official footwear sponsor of outfitter OARS, whose more than 300 guides work on rivers worldwide, Chaco is also collaborating with American Rivers on a film project documenting conservation efforts in the Grand Canyon; and has partnered with Fishpond to build custom sandals for fly fishing, with proceeds benefiting the Western Rivers Conservancy. “Rivers are core to Chaco’s identity, so relationships with organizations that love, promote, and protect rivers, and expand people’s experiences on them, are true to our roots,” says Cahco’s Josh Weichhand.
Recently announcing its Most Endangered Rivers list, American Rivers protects and restores wild rivers to leave a legacy of healthy waterways for future generations. As part of its partnership with the organizaiton, Chaco has created a limited edition, river-inspired wrist wrap made from jacquard webbing similar to that used in its sandals. Chaco, American Rivers and NRS are also co-sponsoring “The Important Places,” a short film about protecting the Grand Canyon, which tops AR’s Endangered Rivers list this year. The film will premier at the 5 Point Film Festival in Carbondale, Colo., at the end of April. Chaco is also making a cash donation to support AR’s work protecting rivers across the country.
Finally, to extend its visibility and protection in the fishing market, Chaco is collaborating with fly fishing manufacturer Fishpond on a custom webbing design that benefits the Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC). Fishpond will offer Chaco Flip and Z/2 models in Fishpond-specific webbing, with $2.50 from the sale of the Flips and $5 from the sale of the Z/2s going to the WRC to help protect river ecosystems in the western U.S.
