Spearheaded by professional stand-up paddlers Haley Mills and Mike Tavares, on hand at each event to help offer clinics and demos, the Show Up and Blow Up tour also encourages stand-up paddleboarding as an alternative fitness activity perfect for the whole family.

The tour 13-city tour started at the Alabama Mountain Games March 16-18, with the next stop at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City, N.C., April 20-22. The 13-city demo tour also features stops in Tennessee, Virginia, Colorado, Montana, Idaho and Utah, allowing participants to experience SUP first-hand while testing Boardworks’ new inflatable SUP line as well as touring and racing SUPs. Participants can also take SUP lessons and join in competitions.

“The support has been tremendous and so far it’s been a great success,” says Boardworks Surf marketing manager Gretchen Gamble. “It’s a fun activity for the whole family and this is a great way to help people learn more about it.”

“The sport of SUP is starting to make its mark in this area and the Boardworks Tour gave it a kick start for the 2012 season,” says Tavares of the tour’s first stop in Alabama. “We had a great turnout for demos, and even hosted the first-ever SUP BoarderCross race in Alabama. It’s the perfect complement to already established activities at these events and lets us introduce the sport of stand-up paddleboarding to people who might not otherwise have a chance to try it.”

The tour comes on the heels of Boardworks’ release of the patent-pending Badfish MCIT (Multi Chamber Inflatable Technology), a new game-changing inflatable SUP predicted to lead the market in terms of performance and stability. Challenging the design constraints of existing drop-stitch inflatable SUP technology, the board employs a new I-Beam Stiffening System and tapered rails for enhanced rigidity and stability.
