American Rivers launches River Ambassador Program for Outfitters

The River Ambassador Program captures the enthusiasm that people have when they visit a river and gives them opportunities to take action for conservation. River Ambassador businesses receive benefits including outreach materials, recognition at www.AmericanRivers.org, the American Rivers newsletter, social media outreach, and more.

“Local businesses and outfitters are some of the best advocates for clean, healthy rivers. We are excited to work with them to introduce more people to the joy and beauty of rivers, and inspire a new generation of conservationists,” says Anne Paterson of American Rivers.

Loveland Canoe and Kayak, located on the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River, was among the first businesses to sign up. “We feel it’s an important part of our stewardship to take good care of our waterway and help to keep it clean and healthy,” says owner Mark Bersani. “Our partnership with American Rivers has enabled us to promote and host highly successful annual river cleanups and provides us with resources to help educate paddlers about river conservation. We’re very excited to be charter members of the River Ambassador Program.”

Healthy rivers are valuable community assets that are vital to health, quality of life, and recreation. From fishing to paddling to wildlife-watching, rivers offer endless opportunities to connect with the outdoors. According to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, more people fish than visit Disney World each year, and paddle sports are the fastest-growing segment of the outdoor industry.

River businesses are invited to join the River Ambassador program today. Membership starts at $250 annually. To become a member, visit www.americanrivers.org/riverambassador, apaterson@americanrivers.org

American Rivers is the leading organization working to protect and restore the nation’s rivers and streams. Rivers connect us to each other, nature, and future generations. Since 1973, American Rivers has fought to preserve these connections, helping protect and restore more than 150,000 miles of rivers through advocacy efforts, on-the-ground projects, and the annual release of America’s Most Endangered Rivers®.
