28th National Paddling Film Festival Wraps Up Feb. 25-26

- Advertisment -

Throughout its nearly three decades, this film competition has provided the paddling community with a fun and profitable event to support American Whitewater and river conservation. In that time, the NPFF has also helped to raise the quality of paddlesport entertainment by recognizing talent and providing useful feedback for the artists who make the show a possibility.

As always the NPFF finds a great guest speaker, and this year was no different, with the film festival tapping Doug Ammons, a Montana native and a world class kayaker for the last 25+ years. Ammons has done dozens of expedition first descents of rivers around the world, and is particularly known for his outrageous solo descents of highwater and extended wilderness Class V+ and VI runs.

Ammons has also done seven television documentaries of expeditions for National Geographic, ESPN, and the Outdoor Life Network, four of which won Emmy Awards for their photography. He wrote the scripts for four of them, played guitar on the soundtracks of three, and won an Emmy for Action Cinematography in 1998 for footage he shot of climbing and kayaking on an expedition in Bolivia. These are still shown on American and international television to audiences of millions worldwide.

New for 2011, the main projection this year was also done in HD, with Jackson Kayak donating a Villain creekboat to the silent auction. Check out our sponsors at the bottom of the page and bid on your favorite items while supporting a great cause!!
