Presented by the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association

Held the weekend before the GoPro Games in nearby Vail, Colo., allowing professional paddlers the opportunity to swing by and paddle the Yampa River, the Yampa River Festival, SUP Cup and Paddling Life Creek Race is a fun-filled paddling event held in downtown Steamboat Springs, CO, on the Yampa River, the last remaining free-flowing tributary to the Colorado River system. Hosted by local river advocacy group Friends of the Yampa, the river festival is an annual event based around the Yampa River that draws paddlers from across the state to Steamboat to participate in canoe, kayak and raft races, stand-up paddleboard events, river dog contests, fishing demos and more.

The event also includes the popular Paddling Life Creek Race on Friday; and SUP Cup, events, races, slalom races, and super fun post party at Sake2U along the Yampa River Saturday night.

This year’s event also includes the new three-event SUP Cup, sponsored by the City of Steamboat Springs and Hala Gear, offering cash prizes to overall winners of sprint, SUP cross and downriver events.

The weekend’s festivities, which this year coincide with the Steamboat Marathon, are held throughout town on different sections of the Yampa, including the popular C-hole downtown. The event on Saturday will be followed by a post-event party featuring local bands, beer and other surprises.

Details:

June 3, Friday afternoon (6 p.m.): Creek Race – Start: Water Treatment Plant. Finish: Steamboat Blvd. Bridge. Single racer format featuring one mile of seat-of-the-pants, Class IV-V continuous whitewater.

June 4, Saturday (all day): Freestyle, downriver and other events, downtown Steamboat Springs. Awards party at Carl’s Tavern afterward (corner of 7th and Yampa Streets downtown)
