Let’s face it…once your put on that drytop or those river sandals, they’re used. But they still work great. And now you can find a plethora of used paddlesports gear less expensive than anywhere else at Geartrade, a site specializing in getting people outside and pursuing the sports they love more affordably than ever.
“Paddlesports gear sells fast on Geartrade, particularly in the early spring,” says Aaron Provine, president of Geartrade. “It’s one of our most important developing categories, as there’s clearly healthy interest in ‘UnNew’ gear from both avid paddlers looking to fill a specific need in their gear closet as well as people looking to get into the sport in a more affordable way.”
Top categories in paddlesports include wetsuits, drytops and paddles. It also carries PFDs less than five years old, which is the industry safety standard. Geartrade doesn’t, however, carry boats.
A quick scan of the site reveals an assortment of pumps, sandals, booties, car racks, apparel such as paddling jackets and pants, knives, drybags, SUP leashes, rash guards, wetsuits and even eyeglass retainers (for just three bucks). It also carries such helpful stories in its blog posts as “How to Ship a SUP.”
The inventory rotates based on what’s come in and what is selling, but paddling gear always picks up come spring, so check it out to save your money for driving shuttle.
“The big story from a paddling perspective is how used gear is creating an easier and more affordable entry point for new paddlers,” says spokesperson Drew Simmons. “When you can gear up for less, you’re more likely to start a new sport, and that holds espescially true for sports like paddling.”
