A year and a half after it sponsored a topnotch team that made waves in the world of whitewater by paddling a cave-filled river atop a glacier and then soaring off a 60-foot waterfall out of the glacier into the sea, RedBull has released its film Ice Waterfalls to rave reviews.

The team, including Aniol Serrasolses, David Sodomka, Aleix Salvat, and Mikel Sarasola, undertook an 11-kilometer trek across the Arctic’s icy expanse to access the river leading to the glacial waterfall. Serrasolses expressed his astonishment, saying, “It’s hard to find the words to explain this feeling. It’s like kayaking on another planet. Without a doubt, it’s the most unique kayak I’ve ever done in my life.”

“We were in a constantly changing environment, a totally unpredictable place. We knew how risky it was, but when you look around you it all made sense.”

“The dream was to take our sport into an entirely new environment—to explore whether whitewater rivers could form over glaciers and attempt to navigate them. With that vision in mind, four friends set out onto the Greenland Ice Cap. None of us had ever been there before, and we were alone. A helicopter dropped us in the middle of nowhere and flew away, leaving behind an overwhelming silence. What we discovered was astonishing. Massive rivers, formed by melting ice, flowed in an intense shade of blue, breaking the monotony of the white, frozen landscape. And yes, those rivers had powerful rapids, constantly shifting as the water carved through the ice beneath.

We could hardly believe what lay ahead. Paddling on those rivers was an experience like no other—more than just kayaking, it felt as if we were levitating over the frozen expanse.
That first expedition proved to us that there are still uncharted frontiers in our sport. What followed is captured in the film Ice Waterfalls, which tells the full story. I will never be able to thank @RedBulland @Prada enough for making it happen, and @visitgreenland for their support.”
