Well, the USA Freestyle Kayaking Team’s Team Trials at Oklahoma City’s RiverSports Whitewater Center are all said and done, after a whirlwind of high-flying loops, McNasty’s and other high-end moves, the team members have been announced for the coveted spots on the US team for the 2022 ICF Freestyle World Championships in Nottingham, England.
The results are both predictable and not so. It’s a family affair for the Jackson clan, with Dane, Emily and proud papa EJ all making the team, as well as a few other venerable vets (nice work, Stephen Wright!) and newbies. Now it’s onto England later this year to see how they all match up against others of the world’s best.
As for the team being all in the family for the Jacksons, Emily feels there’s plenty more to come.
“Why would it be the last time we were all on it?” she says. “Showing up is 90% of it…and my dad will and continues to show up for this sport in so many ways and therefore he has had some amazing opportunities, such as representing the US for the millionth time and once again with both kids.
