Bending Branches Launches Sustainable Catalyst Canoe Paddle at PSR

The latest from Bending Branches, coming out at this week’s third-annual Paddlesports Retailer tradeshow, is the new Catalyst canoe paddle. According to the brand, although they have always been mindful of sustainability in manufacturing, this is the first time that sustainable practices truly drove product development — and that’s the inspiration for the name.

The Catalyst is made by hand layering structurally sound wood scraps into each paddle, as part of a commitment to the reusability of excess materials. Eight unique blade layouts will be available to consumers through this process.

Paddles are meant to be extremely durable as well, with a two-ounce fiberglass wrap and full Rockgard coverage around the blade, exceeding the brand’s internal blade-strength testing.

The 11-degree bend with Bending Branches’ classic teardrop blade shape makes this paddle smooth and efficient for long days on the water. There is also a straight model available.

Additionally, $5 from every paddle sold will be donated to American Rivers.

Here are the specs you need to know:

*Blade size is 8.1 x 19 inches (118 square inches)
*Weight is 22 ounces
*Grip type is ST-Freestyle Palm, 11-degree bent shaft
*Blade material is a combination of basswood, red alder, maple and roasted basswood
*Shaft is ovalized, from solid basswood
