The Straight Dope: PL blows the cover on kayak dopers

San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds got his from BALCO. Tour de France cyclist Floyd Landis allegedly took a dose of synthetic testosterone, and world-record sprinter Justin Gatlin blames his positive drug test on a steroid-laced rubdown. It makes us wonder: What are paddlers doping with these days?

Dr Aqua – Of boating, regulations and tools!

Well hello, hello. Or should I say Ola. Sorry for the lack of a good column recently. Dr. Aqua has been on hiatus near the Equator, riding the Oil & Water bus and enjoying the surf and whitewater of sunny Central America with Seth Warren and Tyler Bradt. During their drive from Alaska to Argentina, Bradt and Warren have had enough time on their hands to name their camera’s (Billy and Bob), flashlight(Stacey) and even their ride. They’ve dubbed the vegetable oil-powered truck “The Baby.” I was thinking more “babe magnet.” Those two attracted more interest than a celebrity in a supermarket.

Get Yer River Permits!

Straight from Paddling Life, all the info you need to land a river permit this year (just make sure to invite us along...)

Every winter comes permit season, and if you don’t play the game--or aren't a cook, good looking or own a raft--you won’t get on a multi-day raft trip. Thanks to PL, here's all the info you need

What Is Paddling Life?

What is Paddling Life? It’s not what you run, or the boat you use, but the feeling you get when you’re on the water. It’s raft camping with your kids, shouldering a canoe, dropping your sea kayak skeg, running your first waterfall and feeling your

Dr. Aqua, a marginally factual column Episode 2

Happy belated Thanksgiving from The Life! It’s been a long fall out west. I’m getting sort of desperate for water. I’ve resigned to splatting the abutments of the local railroad bridge, the only thing creating current within a 50-mile radius. I like to think of it as street boating, sort of like street skating. And yes, I let my pants hang below my ass on occasion.

Drevo on boating the Northwest flood

How big was the Election Day Flood in Oregon and Washington? None other than Sam Drevo, Josh Bechtal and Tao Berman hiked out of the Hood River. Drevo Reports.

Dr. Aqua, a marginally factual column

Greetings fellow paddlers. Welcome to The Life. This is the first in a series of updates by a paddler for paddlers. I’ll try to be as accurate and fair as possible but I don’t pretend to be a journalist so things may sway towards fiction. Aren’t all paddlers slightly delusional anyway? Like George Bush, I got into this thing without an exit strategy.

Go! Oregon

The area around Portland Oregon is a boater's paradise, whether your jones is whitewater, touring or surf. PL tells you where to go, and what to do afterwards.
