Palm Equipment, Pyranha Celebrate Bren Orton with Community Paddle Day Aug. 31

Let’s call it a Bren Day. Or, as Bren Orton would say, a “Class Joy” day—which, to us here at Paddling Life, is the best way to describe paddling rapids just for the sheer fun of it. As long as you’re getting joy out of it, that’s all that matters and is the most important thing of all.

Whichever moniker you choose to call it, Palm Equipment and Pyranha, two of the late Bren Orton’s sponsors, are celebrating his life with a gathering on August 31 on the River Dee in Llangollen, Wales.

And if you can’t make it in Bren’s honor to Llangollen—part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along eleven miles of canal from Gledrid to the Horseshoe Falls via the spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct—celebrate his spirit on your own waterway wherever you are at home.

Read the announcement on Instagram here:

“In May, we lost a dear friend, Bren Orton. To celebrate his life, everyone is welcome to a gathering on August 31st on the River Dee in Llangollen.

The Dee was special to Bren. It’s where his passion for kayaking began and his enthusiasm for the river became an inspiration to us all. Join us to paddle some ‘Class Joy’ in Bren’s words and share some stories by the river. We’ll gather at Horseshoe Falls at 17:30 and paddle to Mile End Mill – more details to follow.

If you are unable to come along, please get on the water wherever you are and celebrate with us at a similar time.
