A Perfectly Runnable Northwest 70-footer

Check out these photos from the latest gem discovered in the Northwest. A huge crew descended on this drop in early January after a nice low elevation snow melt. About 500 cfs created just the right conditions for three clean lines back to back. No broken noses or shoulder injuries, just a little bit of broken equipment, and big smiles.

I was invited to come out by the Gearbox HD boys, and I couldn’t help myself. Only 1.5 hour drive from Portland,Oregon this creek is at the headwaters of the Klicktat River. I geared up and dropped in on a rope to the ledge at the lip of the drop. Sweating bullets, and kicking steps, I could feel the pulse of the water, and the negative space created by the undercut bowled out snowy ledge where my feet froze.

Eric Boomer got the first descent, followed by Ben Stokesberry, and LJ Groth. The young guns were ready, and the conditions permitted perfect lines with different styles. Boomer plugged it, Ben aired it (landing at 30%, and LJ did the tuck and huck cockpit grab with the full face.
